Years ago there was a funny "let's take on the establishment" popular song that got a lot of play. Yes, you guessed it, the title of the song was: signs! The premise being that signs are like moss on a Mississippi tree stump - everywhere! But did you ever give any serious thought to the way things might be without signs? Business owners depend on signs to attract customers, and promote their business. And signs are a cheap investment for most everyone. The problem, though, is keeping the sign doing what it's supposed to do, "hang" without falling down. Ah, therein lies the conundrum, folks, and most of us haven't a clue what really holds up a heavy sign. The problem solver goes by the name “standoff,” and will be the most important part of the sign hanging process.
However, another consideration in using standoffs is not only knowing the type of material they are made from, but knowing the weight these little "buggers" will be able to handle. The good news, though, is most standoffs are strong enough to handle the weight of most sign sizes, but it's better to know that to be a fact, before hanging your sign. Standoffs offer several choices: aluminum and steel. Both are low maintenance and resistant to rust; but aluminum standoffs, because of their light weight, are easier to handle.
On the other hand, heavier signs will require stronger standoffs. That's where stainless steel standoffs can offer a helping hand, and ready to go to work, because they can handle a heavier weight. They are also the most common standoffs used when it comes to holding up larger signs. But an important factor to remember when using the stronger, stainless steel standoffs is knowing the type of connectors that are going to hold the sign to the wall. So when it gets right down to the bottom line, you need sign standoffs more than they need you; nails and screws won't cut it. No matter which type of standoff you choose, the cost will not bust your budget if you know what you're looking for. But that's where your computer rises to the occasion in assisting you in finding a local dealer to offer up an "I can solve your problem" parachute. Remember, your sign, the right standoff selection you need, equals a sign that will be standing many years from now.
