Mounting Outdoor Signs the Right Way

Full Name:
Roger Graham

In order to bring in more customers to your business, you have to let them know where you are. Mounting an outdoor sign is not only a great way to attract customers, it’s also a good way to set your business apart from all of the other businesses out there as long as you mount your sign the right way. When mounting signs outside, you have to think about safety just as much as you think about the proper position.

Proper Placement

In regards to where you actually place your exterior business sign, you’ll want the sign to be large enough that it can easily be read from the street that’s in front of your business. It’s best that you place your sign up high anywhere from 10 to 12 feet off of the ground. You should also make sure that your sign is hung where it can stand out from any other signs that might be around it.

If you plan on using standoffs to mount a smaller sign, aim for placing them at eye level so that they can easily be read without the observer having to bend or strain their neck. One effective trend is to have signs of several different sizes with the large sign bearing the name of the business and smaller signs that have more text-based information.

Attaching Signs to Wood

For signs that will be affixed to wood, you’ll want to use a wax pencil to mark the placement of the standoffs. It’s also a good idea to use a level in order to make sure the sign will be perfectly straight.

Attaching Signs to Brick and Concrete

The same rules apply for attaching a sign to brick and concrete as they do for wood. It’s best that you drill holes that are a little smaller than the hammer anchors into each mark that you make with the wax pencil. For large or heavy signs, you can use strapping to make sure they remain securely and safely in place.

Always turn to sign standoff professionals when hanging exterior signs in order to gain maximum exposure for your business and to make sure your signs are mounted safely.
